Tom Riley spoke before 80 people at the Shrewsbury Library and did a Lecture/Video on the Orphan Train Era. Before the lecture/video a meeting of The friends of the Shrewsbury Library was held. The new Shrewsbury Library will open next year and The Friends of the Library have a very active fundraising arm to aid the new Library.
TOM RILEY SPEAKS BEFORE THE IRISH HISTORY AT THE TENNIS HALL OF FAME IN NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND
Ann and Tim Arnold and Mike Slein, the director of the Irish History Museum in Newport, Rhode Island invited Tom Riley to speak about The Orphan Train Era (1853-1929) in America and its relationship to the Great Hunger (1845-1852) in Ireland. Over 150 people showed up for the presentation and another 50 people had to be turned away because of over capacity. Refreshments were served and $330 was raised for The Oyster Bay Railroad Museum and The Coalition for the Homeless.
